Coeliac disease is a serious condition that necessitates a personalized long-term follow-up plan to maintain health and minimize the risk of complications. After diagnosis, it is crucial to both learn about, and acquire the necessary skills, to adhere to a gluten free diet. It is also important to screen for malnutrition or any potentially related autoimmune conditions.
The treatment of Coeliac Disease aims are to reverse the harmful effects of gluten, alleviate symptoms, enhance quality of life, and monitor for potential complications. Regular medical reviews are essential to ensure these treatment goals are achieved.
The Coeliac Clinic is passionate about improving the lives of those living with Coeliac Disease, whilst also reducing the risk of complications. As a GP with a special interest in Coeliac Disease, Dr Kelly is able to discuss the ins and outs of a gluten free diet in detail, and educate new patients regarding Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL). In addition to this, Dr Kelly is also able to order the necessary investigations to ensure healthy ongoing management of her Coeliac Patients.
It is important to note that Dr Kelly is a Specialist General Practitioner who is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). She is able to order any necessary pathology and radiology required for the ongoing health of her coeliac patients. She is not a Specialist Gastroenterologist, and therefore is unable to provide an endoscopic diagnosis of Coeliac Disease, or assist patients with the completion of an Oats Challenge.
